Nine spots to destress in Downtown Santa Monica
By Megan Ranegar

Relax. Chill out. Kick it. No matter which way you put it, it's about time you indulged in some R&R. National Stress Awareness Day is April 16, just in time to let your worries (we're looking at you, tax season) melt away. A designated day for destressing? No need to tell us twice.

Read on for Downtown Santa Monica's top spots for shaking off the stress, however that looks for you. Make sure to follow Yelp's bookmark collection to keep all of these suggestions on hand for optimal easy breezy vibes.

Indulge in a massage or spring citrus facial at Petite Spa

Treat yourself! Petite Spa's spring citrus facial features lemon essential oil aromatherapy and a kale mask, a.k.a. the most Santa Monica thing ever. "Hands down the best massage I've ever had. It actually felt tailored to me and like a partnership between what my body was telling her and how she could help relieve my tension and pain," says Yelper Claire K.

Walk it out on Santa Monica Beach

There's a reason why they call it the "best coast." Take advantage of Downtown Santa Monica's proximity to the Pacific while taking a stroll on their well kept beach front path.

On pins and needles? Try an acupuncture session at Authentic Healing Traditions

Though it may seem counterintuitive, those little needles work some serious magic when it comes to releasing pain and anxiety. "Melody and Rob are certainly gifted in their field! They have so much traditional knowledge combined with amazing instinct and healing energies. They treat you professionally, yet give you the feeling as though you have been friends with them for years, even upon first meeting," says Yelper Isabelle J.

Get a serious dose of endorphins at Westside Comedy Theater

Shake off the stress with a belly laugh! Their rotating list of local comics, improv performers, and the occasional celebrity drop in will keep you on your toes.

Catch an ocean view at Elephanté

"After going to Third Street Promenade for so many years, I never knew such a chic and cool restaurant is perched on 2nd street with such a lovely view. I'd say the vibes are the main reasons why someone would come here," says Yelper Jasmin H. Pro tip: if that view doesn't take the edge off, their craft cocktails should do the trick.

Namaste your way to Chill Town at Bhakti Yoga Shala

After nearly ten years in biz, Bhakti Yoga Shala is a Downtown Santa Monica staple. "Nothing short of magical! They welcome you with open arms and open hearts. Doesn't matter if it's your first time or a pro, it all works. The energy of each instructor, the owners and the community is kind and loving. They genuinely care and want your light to shine as bright as it can," says Yelper Mahtab P.

Give "comfort food" a whole new meaning at The Gourmandise School of Sweets & Savories

Whether you're a wiz in the kitchen or more of a wannabe, The Gourmandise School of Sweets & Savories has a cooking class for you (head to their website for a list of specialty cuisines and courses). "A group of us attended the Hawaiian Surf & Turf cooking class last month and we had a lot of fun. I've taken cooking classes at other businesses but this particular school exceeded my expectations and seemed more hands-on and professional yet still informal," says Yelper Heidi G.

Sip an herbal tea at Dragon Herbs

From your Astragalus to your Zen Shen, Dragon Herbs has you covered. No idea what we're talking about? Head in for a personalized herbal consultation from their in-house experts.
