Santa Monica is home to many of the startups associated with Silicon Beach. Specifically, Downtown Santa Monica has a number of free resources for these entrepreneurs and anyone looking to become one.
Free Lunch Friday
This event is part of a global movement “where startups and entrepreneurs gather, on the last Friday of every month, for real human interaction and community.” The lunch is held at Real Office Centers (ROC) and features a prominent speaker, usually a leader in the Silicon Beach community. You’ll need to join the Meetup group if you want to register, and when the dates are posted, sign up quickly because the spots do fill up!
The law firm of Stubbs, Alderton & Markiles offers a Preccelerator Program for select startups. As part of the curriculum for the program, the firm hosts educational seminars on topics including marketing, user acquisition, finances, funding, investor relations, and more. Some of these seminars are open to startups outside of the program. To get on the email list for these events, contact firstname.lastname@example.org and ask to be added.
General Assembly is known for their workshops and courses. While these courses are excellent for entrepreneurs, you’ll find most are not free. If you take a close look at their events calendar, you’ll find some events that are free. For example, it doesn’t cost anything to attend their info sessions and certain networking events.
And of course there are the many libraries and coffee shops in Santa Monica offering free Wi-Fi for guests so you can brainstorm on the cheap. The Main Library and some of the branches also have rooms for rent for a minimal fee. Check them out here.
